Christian
Formation
Christian Formation is a life-long process. Our task as Christians
is to continue to become the
people that God intends for us to be. To that end, we encourage
regular participation in
worship, and we offer classes and groups for all ages.
Sundays:
Children pre-K through grade 5 begin each 10:15 service
with their parents and depart for
their classes following the children's sermon. About once a month,
children stay in church for
the whole service and serve as ushers, readers, and oblation bearers.
Youth grades 6 through 9 are enrolled in a special program,
The Journey to Adulthood,
which meets at 9:00 on Sunday mornings and has some afternoon
and evening activities each
month. Two sections of this program, Rite 13 and J2A, meet separately.
For more information
about this program, or to enroll a young person, please call the
church office or e-mail the
rector at sjlatimer@adelphia.net.
Adults meet at 9:15 on Sunday mornings for a study group.
Recently the group has discussed
"Prayer" by Richard Foster, and has studied The Gospel
of John.
High School Youth meet in youth group on Sunday evenings
for food and fellowship. Trips
and outings are scheduled on a regular basis.
Other times:
Retreats, Quiet Days, and special programs are offered
in Advent, Lent, and throughout
the year. Recent Lenten programs included Taize' worship and Celtic
Spirituality in Poetry and
Song.
A Book Discussion/Spirituality Group facilitated by the
rector meets most Tuesday
evenings from 7 to 9 p.m. to discuss books on the topic of spirituality.
Recent books include,
"Do what you have the power to do - a study of six unnamed
New Testament women",
"Practicing our Faith", and "Friend of the Soul
- A Benedictine Spirituality of Work". Come
join this supportive group as we continue to explore our faith
together!
A Wednesday Lunch Group meets most Wednesdays from 11:30
to 1:00 to discuss a book.
Recent books include:"To Love as God Loves".
For more information about any of the above programs, please
call the church office or e-mail
the rector at sjlatimer@adelphia.net.
