Outreach

The parish family at St. Mark's believes that serving God must include stewardship both within our community and in the wider world.

St. Mark's is engaged in support of a school and church in Haiti, as part of the Maine Diocesean relationship with Haiti. Programs and fund raising efforts are undertaken throughout the year. Our sister church, Christ King Church in Terriere Rouge, Haiti, receives our prayers and assistance, helping the spiritual and physical well being of so many people, helping many children to go to bed at night with at least one meal in their stomach and giving them some opportunity to obtain healthy drinking water when they are in Christ King school. We continue to pray that our support and bond with Christ King Church and Fr. Noe Bernier will bring health, healing and hope to the children of Terriere Rouge.

St. Mark's also supports various community outreach programs. To that end, church facilities are made available on a regular schedule and at little
or no cost to the following types of community groups:

  • Alcoholics Anonymous
  • Narcotics Anonymous
  • Alanon
  • Amnesty International
  • Codependents Anonymous

For a schedule of meeting times, please contact the specific community group or call the church office.

For many, many years parishoners have sponsored public suppers as a means of extending
Christian fellowship to the greater Waterville Community. Proceeds from three of these events
are given to the Waterville Interfaith Homeless Shelter, the Waterville Area Food Bank, and the Evening Sandwich Program.

The Evening Sandwich Program is a joint effort of Waterville-area churches to provide an
evening meal to persons in need. ESP operates near its clients at the Universalist-Unitarian
Church on Silver Street in Waterville. Parishoners from St Mark's prepare meals on Thursdays.

The St.Mark's Christmas Fair, held annually on an early Saturday in December, is an joint
effort of the entire parish. We commit a portion of the proceeds of the Fair
to outreach efforts. The outreach committee makes recommendations to the Vestry on the
distribution of these funds.

A basket for food donations to the Waterville Area Food Bank welcomes contributions,
which are gathered on the first Sunday of the month.

Parishioners of St. Mark's contribute regularly to the United Thank Offering and the
Episcopal Relief and Development Fund.
