Parish Fellowship and Service Groups

The Altar Guild is a group of parishioners responsible for the preparation and care of the altar and sanctuary at St. Mark's. Their duties include: care and preparation of vestments and altar linen; care and preparation of service implements; arrangement of altar flowers; and baking bread for Eucharistic services.

An Acolyte corps of about twenty younger parishoners serve God and the parish through their work at the altar. Membership is open to parish youth enrolled in grades five through twelve.

The Martha Guild is open to women of the parish and provides members the opportunity to
discuss contemporary Christian issues as well as issues of parish concern. Meetings are held
monthly, usually around a pot-luck lunch, and are very informal in nature.

Liturgical Lay Ministries are active at St. Mark's. Licensed lay readers, chalice bearers,
lectors, and lay eucharistic ministers serve the parish at worship or by taking communion to
shut-ins.

The Church Fair is held annually, on the first Saturday in December, transforming the church
property into a bazaar at which foods and crafts are offered for sale at tables and through a
silent auction. Hundreds of Waterville-area residents find their way to St. Mark's to help create
this festive and friendly setting and to enjoy the popular home made luncheon. A portion of the net proceeds of this event go to outreach projects supported by the parish.

The St. Mark's Garden committee tends to the grounds of the church, and plans the
plantings and maintenance of our garden.

A variety of Christian Formation groups meet on a regular basis to provide both spiritual
growth and fellowship. See Christian Formation.

Other groups and committees are involved in the needs of the parish and the community.
These would include the finance committee, the outreach committee, the stewardship committee, the kitchen committee, the hospitality committee, the office volunteers and the worship planning committee.
